Recently we’ve had some really wonderful logistical success for Ethan on his AAC & I think it’s as important to celebrate this as we do all communication. Logistics such as navigating volume, deleting mistakenly pressed words & understanding that we may not always hear the device from far away, so bringing it closer to us – feel hugely important to further his AAC communication journey.

Logistics such as:

💜 Ethan pressed something on his AAC device & smiled at me, I didn’t hear so & I shared this with him. So, he grabbed his AAC device, bought it closer to me & pressed the “speak” button to say it again.

💜 He has begun to navigate the speech bar at the top of his AAC device a little more. For example, one of his favourite foods is now Pesto Pasta. He shared via his AAC he wanted Sausage Pasta but his facial expression showed us he didn’t mean to press this. Before we could say anything he’d hit the delete button to get rid of Sausage Pasta & replaced it with the button he meant to press, Pesto Pasta.

💜 Once his AAC device volume was completely turned down for some reason & he said something to us which of course didn’t speak out loud. He realised the volume was off, turned the volume right up using the device buttons & pressed “speak” so he could say it again.

All these things show such understanding of the AAC device as his voice & his to navigate – I think this is so powerful. 👏👏
