A post I shared recently describing the wonderfully emotional moment when my non-speaking, autistic son – Ethan – said “Good morning, Mummy” on his AAC for the first time, has had such a brilliant response across virtually all the social media platforms. 💜 It’s shown what’s possible with AAC, it’s pulled on heart strings & it’s shown just what’s possible when AAC modelling is consistent.

I was thrilled when Francesca Schettini, regional manager for the South West Europe region of Tobii Dynavox [the company who created the app & AAC device Ethan uses] got in touch to ask if she can share this story as part of her presentation to Congress about AAC in Perugia, Italy. Francesca shared that my post made her emotional & it would be perfect as a way to conclude as a demonstration of the joy & connection that AAC can bring. Stories like this aren’t immediately created as soon as an individual is given an AAC device – but they are always, always worth the wait. 💜
